Description
The drive through Gairloch, close to Poolewe and the starting point for this adventure, was always going to be tough. It is the place where my family and I spent many holidays together when I was young, where my late grandparents had a house overlooking the sea.
I recall a fascination of the hills, even then. I remember glancing across the bay - to what I now know will have been Sgùrr Mor of Beinn Alligin; and being transfixed by the majestic profile of Slioch each time we drove along the road beside Loch Maree.
Standing here, on the escarpment along the summit of A’Mhaighdean, looking across the classic view for the first time, over the vast wilderness to the distant sea, and the place of so many happy memories with my Mum, sister, Grandpa and Grandmum, was a moment I’ll cherish forever.
