What happens when taking photographs is no longer the most important part of photography?

Our consumption of landscape photography has changed forever. Every image is viewed, judged and moved past in an instant in this era of social media. Does our own perception and experience in the field fuel this insatiable fire?

In this blog, I reminisce on the adventure that I enjoyed to capture the image 'Deliverance', which was recently selected for inclusion in the illustrious and coveted Natural Landscape Photography Awards fine art book, which is now in its fourth edition. The image was captured on Cul Mor, and features the iconic mountains Suilven and Quinag, in the far northwest of the Scottish Highlands, in the magical region that is Assynt.

In this blog, I discuss the portfolio of three images that I recently had awarded 'Highly Commended' in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards 2024, my thoughts on photography competitions in general, and some other unrelated waffle.
